About The Position

To load retorts with uncooked pouched product to be cooked to the proper product sterilization levels. This position requires participation as a member of the team, contributing to ongoing development, communication, and implementation of team concepts, programs, and policies. The role involves coordinating work to ensure best practices with all team members and attending appropriate team meetings. The operator is expected to foster strong cohesiveness regarding major issues and accept responsibility to quickly identify areas lacking cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working supportively to resolve issues. Familiarity with Simmons' established operating systems (quality, security, office environment, company policies) is required, along with understanding the responsibility to maintain this familiarity and the position's role in supporting these systems. The operator must also consider the impact of individual actions on the systems and communicate concerns and improvement ideas. Other duties as necessary in support of business objectives may be assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Verify that the retorts to be started are empty.
  • Check incoming water temperature and record results on the retort downtime sheet.
  • Ensure steam and air are present at the retorts and the system is in Auto.
  • Ensure retorts are loaded and unloaded properly and enter this data on the retort sheet.
  • Perform and record chlorine tests once per shift on the retort log sheet.
  • Check and record incoming water temperature at the beginning and mid-shift on the retort log sheet and downtime sheet.
  • Unload sterilized pouched product to arrival lanes for unloading.
  • Track and document readings on up to 8 retorts as needed.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the cook cycle.
  • Participate as a member of the team, fostering cohesiveness and resolving issues.
  • Maintain familiarity with Simmons' operating systems and communicate concerns and improvement ideas.
  • Perform other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.
