About The Position

The Retirement Benefits Consultant brings expert-level knowledge to the design, development, implementation, and support of strategic benefit initiatives. This role ensures that Thrivent maintains market competitiveness while focusing on the financial, emotional, and physical well-being of employees and their families. The position manages relationships with benefit vendors and works closely with both internal and external partners to ensure benefit programs comply with plan documents and regulatory compliance requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, advanced degree preferred.
  • Expert-level analytical skill is required to interpret pension, 401(k) and non-qualified plan provisions and certify accuracy of calculations.
  • 8-10 years’ experience in the administration of qualified and non-qualified retirement plans.
  • Provide direction and guidance to team members, as it relates to retirement benefits.
  • Must be able to communicate complex matters in a way that non-technical participants, beneficiaries, and/or Senior Management can understand.
  • Able to communicate at all levels.
  • Ability to solve complex problems and bring new perspectives to existing solutions.
  • Able to think strategically
  • Able to lead your own work and deliver on expected outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Understand the competitive landscape and emerging trends to ensure our overall benefit package aligns with our talent strategy and is meaningful to our workforce.
  • Lead or support a variety of retirement benefit initiatives which could include competitiveness analysis, program design, RFPs, acquisition or vendor implementation, workforce communication, or other initiatives that support Thrivent’s strategy.
  • Manage short- and long-term financial impact of retirement benefit programs to Thrivent and our workforce through plan design, proactive program oversight and shared accountability.
  • Act as a partner and consultant for health & welfare and retirement benefit programs, managing vendor relationships and responding to workforce escalations, as needed.
  • Remain current with legislative and regulatory requirements and ensure our benefit plans are administered in accordance with plan documents and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain close working relationships with internal and external partners, including vendors, consultants, HR team members, legal counsel, finance partners, and communications staff.
  • Ensure plan documents are compliant with federal and state regulations.
  • Lead benefit program projects and initiatives.
  • Develop a comprehensive retirement communications strategy that effectively demonstrates the value of Thrivent retirement programs to both current and prospective employees.
