Retail Trainee
About The Position
This temporary role supports Goodwill Gulf Coast’s mission through retail operations, donation intake, merchandise preparation, and customer service. The position trains and supports individuals in core store activities, including donation intake, sales floor maintenance, and merchandise processing. It is temporary for up to 90 days, with the intention of becoming a regular position after 90 days if performance, work ethic, and cultural fit meet expectations. The role is based at Ft Walton Choctaw in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, and is scheduled for 28 hours per week with open availability Sunday through Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. The position is non-exempt and reports to the Store Manager and Assistant Manager.
Requirements
- Ability to interact cordially and productively with a variety of people.
- Ability to market Goodwill and explain its mission to the general public.
- Ability to take initiative and work well with little supervision.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.
- Ability to distinguish better name-brand merchandise.
Nice To Haves
- High school diploma or GED.
- Prior work experience in the service industry.
Responsibilities
- Provide friendly donor and customer service, greeting customers within 10 seconds and offering information.
- Unload donations from donors’ vehicles and accept donations left outside the store.
- Maintain an accurate count of donations and sort donations into designated equipment.
- Load customers’ large purchases.
- Sort and price merchandise, separate sellable from unsellable items, and prepare items for display.
- Clean, hang, and rotate merchandise on the sales floor to maintain a neat and organized presentation.
- Monitor and maintain the cleanliness and organization of dressing rooms and the sales floor throughout the day.
- Answer customer questions, assist with free medical equipment forms, and stock as needed.
- Leave the workstation clean and empty at the end of each shift.
- Maintain the exterior and interior image of the donation area to Goodwill’s standards.
- Keep aisles in the production area free from debris.
- Follow company policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
