About The Position

The Retail Store Manager is responsible for the overall operation of the store, including collections, processing sales, personnel management, financial performance, vocational service plan implementation, and Asset Protection activities. This role oversees the proper handling and processing of donations, maximizes used goods processing through proper techniques, and ensures sales performance goals are met or exceeded. The manager is also responsible for maintaining the appearance and cleanliness of the store, including the sales floor, building exterior, parking lot, and processing areas, as well as ensuring all store equipment is maintained. Financial responsibilities include managing the store budget, achieving processing goals, generating revenue, controlling expenses, and ensuring proper cash handling procedures. Asset protection duties involve maintaining a safe environment, reporting and investigating safety hazards, and ensuring the proper operation of security and safety systems. Human resources responsibilities include hiring, training, and directing store personnel, maintaining morale, conducting performance evaluations, and ensuring adherence to policies and procedures. The manager must also ensure compliance with all company policies, standards, and safety regulations.

Requirements

  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills through command of the English language in order to work with customers and employees.
  • Must exhibit a high level of integrity and business ethics.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must meet qualitative and quantitative performance standards as established by the company.
  • Must pass drug screening and criminal background check.
  • Must possess a valid California driver’s license and insurable driving record.
  • Must not present a direct threat of safety and health to self, others or property.
  • No record or disclosure of criminal conviction that indicates a tendency toward theft, violence, dishonesty, deceit, drug use, moral turpitude or predatory behavior in conflict with the functions listed within this job description.
  • Must immediately inform Supervisor of any arrests and/or convictions that occur while employed at Goodwill.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer a BA/BS and/or minimum of two years retail supervisory experience.
  • Prior profit and loss, sales or cost management accountability preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the proper handling and processing of incoming and outgoing donations: on-site donations, merchandise, processed goods, salvage goods if applicable, and waste.
  • Maximizes used goods processing through the proper application of GISVNN techniques, including: sorting, preparing, and pricing items for sale.
  • Meets or exceed production goals on a consistent basis.
  • Maximizes sales performance through proper rotation, display, signage and inventory of processed merchandise.
  • Meets or exceeds sales goals on a consistent basis.
  • Ensures that quality customer service is presented and provided by employees in a timely and courteous manner to all shoppers, donors and other employees.
  • Ensures the proper management of program participants assigned to the store.
  • Maintains sales floor appearance, cleanliness and shopping environment including but not limited to: floor care, fitting room, cash register and customer service areas, aisles, trash cans, lights, restrooms, glass showcases, window ledges and doors. Maintains doors, odor control, cash registers, vending machines, and restrooms in proper working order.
  • Maintains appearance of building exterior and parking lot appearance, including but not limited to: windows, doors, sidewalks, parking lot lights, dumpster area, landscape, stray shopping carts, store entry and signage.
  • Maintains processing area appearance, housekeeping, and work environment.
  • Ensures all store equipment is maintained in proper working order.
  • Effectively and efficiently manages the store budget including labor budget, achieving processing goals, generating revenue and controlling expenses.
  • Ensures proper cash handling including enforcement of cash register procedures and submission of required reports.
  • Ensures that store and surrounding premises are kept clean and free of safety hazards, and that safety procedures are understood and followed by all store employees.
  • Ensures that asset protection matters are reported and investigated accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Ensures proper operation of security and safety systems including, but not limited to: door locks, alarms, office door, bank deposits, refunds, safe, incident reports, fire extinguishers and cash handling procedures.
  • Receives and maintains training in CPR/First Aid provided by Goodwill.
  • Hires, trains, and directs the activities of store personnel to provide an efficient and effective work force.
  • Maintains positive morale of work force.
  • Reports personnel and rehabilitation information and outcomes accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Ensures that performance evaluations are conducted in a timely manner.
  • Processes employee status change actions accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Ensures proper adherence by store staff to policies and procedures.
  • Utilizes intervention recommendations by Human Resources (HR), to effectively maintain personnel discipline.
  • Ensures compliance with all GISVNN policies, CARF standards, and safety and security regulations.
  • Other related duties as assigned
