About The Position

Tacoma/Pierce County Habitat for Humanity is seeking a hands-on leader who loves building high-performing teams, creating exceptional shopping experiences, and making a lasting impact in their community. As the Retail Store Manager, you will lead the daily operations of one of their stores, driving sales, inspiring staff and volunteers, and transforming donated goods into funding that helps build affordable homes. This role is vital in advancing Habitat's mission while creating a welcoming destination for shoppers and donors alike.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of five years’ work experience, including at least two years in retail or sales management.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and comfort with databases/spreadsheets.

Nice To Haves

  • Post-secondary education preferred.
  • Forklift experience preferred (or willingness to be trained).
  • Occasional overnight travel to conferences.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, train, and schedule store staff, program participants, and volunteers.
  • Monitor performance, address employee concerns, and support corrective action when needed.
  • Partner with the Director of Retail Operations on hiring, performance management, and staff development.
  • Ensure all team members follow safety, operational, and organizational policies.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and performance feedback to staff and volunteers.
  • Promote a positive, inclusive, and mission-driven work culture.
  • Oversee daily cash handling, deposits, and financial accountability.
  • Support budget management and financial performance goals.
  • Maintain accurate records, documentation, and reporting.
  • Manage all aspects of retail operations, including merchandising, pricing, inventory flow, and donation intake.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and customer-friendly sales floor and warehouse.
  • Track and order necessary supplies and equipment.
  • Stay current on retail trends and pricing of comparable products.
  • Utilize Microsoft Office and other tools to manage operations effectively.
  • Oversee store opening/closing procedures and cashier reconciliations.
  • Ensure facility maintenance and security of all assets, cash, and confidential information.
  • Build strong relationships with volunteers, donors, Habitat homeowners, community partners / vendors, and the public.
  • Support gift-in-kind (GIK) donation growth and stewardship.
  • Assist in promoting special sales, events, and new product arrivals.
  • Collaborate with leadership on long- and short-term goals for the Store and affiliate.
  • Contribute ideas for improving efficiency, sales, and community impact.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to advance Habitat’s mission.
  • Use sales and operational data to identify trends and recommend improvements.
