Temporary Seasonal Retail Store Associate- Part-Time-(Various Shifts and Weekend Availability)
About The Position
The Seasonal Peak Associate role at Ocean State Job Lot is a temporary seasonal position responsible for processing and preparing receipts of merchandise, fixtures, and supplies at an assigned location. The associate also helps move, stock, and replenish merchandise on the sales floor and in receiving areas. Associates receive a 30% discount, and compensation is $15 per hour. The work is primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety and health hazards, though conditions vary by store and may include sales, stockroom/receiving, and operations or office areas with differing temperatures, dust levels, and accessibility. The role involves extended periods of remaining stationary, moving, and positioning oneself to complete tasks. Frequent physical activity includes using hand tools, bending, stooping, climbing, reaching, and lifting; associates should be able to regularly lift 35 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. Duties may include other tasks assigned by supervisors or managers, and the job description may be revised. Employment is at will.
Requirements
- Basic math and reading skills.
- Legible handwriting.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to regularly lift 35 pounds.
- Ability to perform frequent physical activities including using hand tools, bending, stooping, climbing, reaching, and lifting.
Nice To Haves
- Prior merchandise receiving, handling, and stocking experience in retail or warehouse environments is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Follow the Company’s freight management process when unloading.
- Unload merchandise, fixtures, and other supplies from trucks and direct them to designated areas on the sales floor.
- Prepare merchandise for the sales floor by removing packaging, verifying price information, and ticketing items where necessary.
- Process merchandise as directed and in accordance with Company procedures.
- Perform ongoing recovery as needed during a shift, including collecting trash and compacting cardboard.
- Work independently and as part of a team to accomplish assigned goals.
- Operate a cash register as needed.
- Recover receiving areas and the sales floor before the end of each shift.
