About The Position

MEC is more than a store; it's a hub for the outdoor community, a leader in sustainability, and a place where individuals can be themselves. Members visit MEC for gear and advice on various outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, climbing, cycling, watersports, snowsports, and travel. As a Flexible Store Advisor, you will assist members in planning their adventures, whether they are planning dream trips or weekend getaways, and whether they are first-timers or outdoor experts. The role emphasizes connecting with people, as staff often cite "the people" as their favorite aspect of working at MEC.

• You can lift 50 lb. and walk 10,000 steps per day.
• Fully open availability to work Saturdays or Sundays.

Nice To Haves

• Product knowledge in camping, cycling, packs or any other outdoor activity is a great asset.
• Previous retail or customer service experience is a plus, not a must.
• You’re curious about gear and want to learn more – we’ll provide training to build your skills.
• Bonus points if you’re also available to work a variety of shifts between Monday and Friday, 7:00am and 9:00pm.

Responsibilities

• Give exceptional member service by matching people with gear that suits their needs.
• Share real-world experience about products.
• Assist with visual merchandising.
• Lend a hand to other staffers.
• Chat with members about products and connect them with what they’re looking for.
• Ask open-ended questions to understand members’ needs.
• Share product knowledge and industry-leading advice on gear, including personal recommendations.
• Be part of a team of staffers who takes pride in keeping the store in tip-top shape.
• Help behind the scenes to organize inventory and get members the products they need.
• Spread the word about MEC events and services.
• Learn about new products, technology and features (including sustainability).
• Help more people in Canada get active outside, whether that means planning for a family camping trip or a massive backcountry expedition.
