About The Position

We are seeking a Retail Sales Associate to play a key role in furthering our vision and mission in our retail operations. This position provides assistance in the day-to-day duties of a cashier or clerk for a Goodwill store, fulfilling Goodwill’s mission statement.

  • Possess skills to sort, pair, and inspect shoes.
  • Discard unrepairable or outdated shoes.
  • Must be able to count and keep simple records.

  • Perform all administrative and record keeping duties as required in store manager’s and/or assistant manager’s absence, including but not limited to preparing store report, making daily deposit, maintaining employee purchase forms.
  • May box shoes package for store delivery.
  • Will need to stand or sit for extended periods of time while working with footwear.

  • Sorts clothing and textile items, bending or stooping to reach into bags or boxes to remove individual textile items.
  • Manually removes hangers, straight pins, and labels from textile items when required.
  • Visually and tactilely inspects items and judges whether or not an item is salable using established criteria.
  • Places unsalable items (salvage) into appropriate containers.
  • Reaches into carts as deep as 36 inches.
  • Lifts textile items as high as 48 inches onto a table.
  • Sorts number and quality of textile items as specified by departmental procedure and policy.
  • Hangs clothing items as soon as quality has been established, visually inspecting the item to determine the appropriate type of hanger.
  • Reaches with one arm to obtain the correct plastic hanger (9-15 inches long).
  • Places the item on the hanger as required by departmental procedure.
  • Manually buttons, zips, or otherwise fastens the item as appropriate.
  • Turns around to place the hung item on a rack approximately 60 inches high.
  • Visually inspects clothing racks on the sales floor and judges which racks are too full.
  • Stands beside racks that are 50 to 60 inches long.
  • Reaches with arms to remove clothing items on hangers that are soiled, torn, or unsaleable.
  • Manually removes hangers from clothing items and places the hanger into a container approximately 12 to 24 inches from the floor.
  • Stands in front of a bin table approximately 40 inches high.
  • Sorts through clothing items in carts, plastic bags, or other containers.
  • Moves containers weighing as much as 25 pounds to the salvage area as far as 75 feet.
  • Pushes a rolling rack (approximately 60 inches high and 72 inches long) of hanging clothing items as far as 50 feet to the sales floor.
  • Reaches with arms to remove clothing items on appropriate racks on the sales floor as determined by company policy and procedure.
  • Cleans wares shelves (approximately 60 inches high and, in sections, 4 feet wide).
  • Dusts shelves, manually removes broken, soiled, or otherwise unsaleable items and places them in trash containers (barrels 36 inches high or boxes 12-24 inches high).
  • Moves containers to the area designated for trash in production, which may be as far as 75 feet from the sales floor.
  • Reaches into carts or boxes 12 to 40 inches from the floor.
  • Manually removes wares and electrical items weighing less than 1 to 15 pounds.
  • Places items on shelves from floor level to 60 inches high.
  • Places ties, belts, and purses on specially designed fixtures according to departmental policy and procedure.
  • Pushes empty carts back to the production area as far as 75 feet from the sales floor.
  • Answers telephone.
  • Answers customer questions about basic store operations, such as hours open and merchandise available, but refers other requisitions to the store manager.
  • Assists individuals making donations of a variety of miscellaneous items contained in bags, boxes, on hangers, or loose or donated as single items.
  • Accepts donations handed by the donor or walks to the donor’s vehicle and removes donations from the vehicle.
  • Maintains helpful and courteous relations with all persons who come into the store and co-workers.
  • Is familiar with the merchandise and its location.
  • Maintains store goals as instructed by the store manager.
