About The Position

EMIC is seeking a dedicated and service-oriented Retail Sales Associate to support the WordWorks Bookstore in advancing the ministry’s mission through excellent customer service and effective retail operations. This role is responsible for assisting customers, processing POS transactions, maintaining accurate cash handling and inventory, and supporting merchandising and administrative functions. The Retail Sales Associate works a flexible schedule to support EMIC/KCM services, conferences, and special events, and assists with coordinating and supporting volunteers as needed.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of Christian books, publishers, and ministry products preferred.
  • Previous retail experience preferred.
  • Experience using point of sale (POS) systems; Retail Pro experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Outlook and Excel.
  • Strong math, organizational, and data entry skills.
  • Excellent customer service, communication, and telephone etiquette.
  • Knowledge of KCM/EMIC products or willingness to learn.
  • Must be people oriented with strong interpersonal skills and a heart for service.
  • Demonstrates love, humility, discernment, teamwork, and servant leadership.
  • Must be flexible to work Sundays, Wednesday evenings, and special events.
  • Self motivated with the ability to make sound decisions under minimal supervision.
  • Strong customer service and problem solving skills in a retail environment.
  • Ability to accurately handle cash, balance drawers, and follow financial procedures.
  • Detail oriented with a high level of accuracy and consistency.

Responsibilities

  • Meet, greet, and serve customers in store while reflecting EMIC and KCM values.
  • Answer incoming phone calls, monitor email, and internal/external communications.
  • Ring up sales, voids, refunds, exchanges, and special orders using POS software.
  • Handle customer service requests and assist customers in locating products.
  • Communicate sales, promotions, and highlighted merchandise.
  • Perform opening and closing store procedures, including balancing cash drawers, Z outs, and deposit preparation.
  • Maintain accuracy and accountability of cash drawers and participate in required audits.
  • Assist with tagging, pricing, and proper placement of merchandise.
  • Ensure bookshelves and sales floor are fully stocked and ready for all EMIC and KCM services, events, and conferences.
  • Monitor inventory levels and process customer product requests.
  • Order KCM/EMIC products for restocking and collaborate with management on outside vendor orders, including creating and receiving PO’s.
  • Receive merchandise, reconcile receiving records, and assist accounting as needed.
  • Process returns, damaged goods, and overstock product following proper procedures.
  • Maintain accurate inventory tracking and assist with annual physical inventory preparation.
  • Support merchandising decisions by staying aware of pastoral teaching themes, Victory Channel promotions, and ministry initiatives.
  • Coordinate, train, and support volunteers assigned to floor duties, pricing, inventory tasks, and special projects.
  • Complete daily operational tasks and participate in weekly, monthly, and yearly responsibilities, including reports, displays, backroom organization, and special ministry events.
