The Retail Pharmacy Technician assists licensed pharmacists in technical duties related to the preparation and distribution of medications. This role involves accurately selecting, preparing, and labeling medications, including hazardous drugs and controlled substances. The technician will also assist with medication distribution, screen phone calls, manage pharmacy procurement and inventory, and handle documentation for controlled substances. Additional responsibilities may include nonsterile compounding, sterile IV admixture, inspecting medication storage areas, completing medication admission histories, and seeking additional duties as needed. The technician may also assist in training other pharmacy technicians and support area leaders. Key tasks include obtaining patient information, data entry, insurance verification, label generation, cashiering, and developing competence in third-party billing functions. The role requires the ability to provide age-appropriate patient care and may involve obtaining immunization certification to perform immunizations under pharmacist supervision. Additionally, the technician may be responsible for operating an Advocate Health-owned vehicle to deliver medications and supplies.
