Assists licensed pharmacists in technical duties related to the preparation and distribution of medications. This includes accurately selecting, preparing, and labeling medications for patients, including hazardous drugs and controlled substances. The role also involves screening phone calls, assisting with medication distribution, daily pharmacy procurement, inventory control, and outdate checking. Specific tasks may include completing documentation for controlled substances, performing nonsterile compounding and sterile IV admixture following USP standards, inspecting medication storage areas, and completing medication admission histories. The technician may also be involved in quality improvement initiatives, training other technicians, and supporting area leaders. Responsibilities include obtaining and recording patient demographic information, data entry into the pharmacy system, insurance verification, label generation, and cashiering. Competence in third-party billing functions is required. The role may involve obtaining immunization certification and performing immunizations under pharmacist supervision, and operating a vehicle to deliver medications and supplies.
