The Retail Pharmacy Technician assists licensed pharmacists in technical duties related to the preparation and distribution of medications. This role involves accurately selecting, preparing, and labeling medications, including hazardous drugs and controlled substances. Responsibilities also include assisting with medication distribution, screening phone calls, managing pharmacy procurement, inventory control, and outdate checking. The technician will complete documentation for controlled substances, perform nonsterile compounding and sterile IV admixture following USP standards where applicable, and inspect medication storage areas. They will also complete medication admission histories, seek additional duties when work is complete, and may participate in quality improvement initiatives and training of other technicians. The role supports area leaders, handles patient demographic information, data entry, insurance verification, label generation, and cashiering. Competence in third-party billing functions is required. The technician must demonstrate age-appropriate patient care knowledge and skills. They may obtain immunization certification and perform immunizations under pharmacist supervision. Additionally, the role may involve operating an Advocate Health-owned vehicle to deliver medications and supplies.
