This full-time position is responsible for assisting licensed pharmacists in technical duties related to the preparation and distribution of medications. The role involves accurately selecting, preparing, and labeling medications, including hazardous drugs and controlled substances. Responsibilities also include screening phone calls, assisting with pharmacy procurement and inventory control, and performing various documentation tasks related to controlled substances. The technician may also perform nonsterile compounding and sterile IV admixture following USP standards and aseptic technique, inspect medication storage areas, and complete medication admission histories. The role supports area leaders, may assist in training other technicians, and abides by all organizational policies and procedures. Additional duties include obtaining patient demographic information, data entry, insurance verification, label generation, cashiering, and potentially third-party billing functions. The technician must demonstrate age-appropriate patient care skills and may obtain immunization certification to perform immunizations under pharmacist supervision. A key responsibility may involve operating an Advocate Health-owned motor vehicle to deliver medications and supplies.
