About The Position

The Retail Pharmacy Manager is responsible for the day to day operations and services. The Retail Pharmacy Manager looks to optimize productivity and efficiency, maximize fiscal gains, minimize loss, improve quality, and achieve excellent pharmacy outcomes.

Requirements

  • Current California Registered Pharmacist license
  • One year of pharmacy management experience or like experience

Responsibilities

  • Manages the operations, workflows, staff members and the pharmacy services provided of the assigned outpatient pharmacy area.
  • Creates systems designed to measure performance and enhance quality of productivity of the pharmacy services offered.
  • Helps prepare/review and/or present reports to demonstrate pharmacy outcomes.
  • Performs all the principal duties of a Pharmacist-In-Charge.
  • Establish policies and procedure for the department. Reviews and revises policies and procedures at least once a year.
  • Responsible for achieving business goals and metrics for the pharmacy including meeting with key stake holders to advertise and promote growth of the pharmacy.
  • Works closely with Director level pharmacy leadership to optimize profits and control expenses.
  • Responsible for developing, maintaining, and actively participating in month end financial reporting and data analysis of business operations to ensure financial viability of the pharmacy.
  • Assists Director level pharmacy leadership in developing the budget and monitoring appropriate use of budget dollars.
  • Guides, directs, and oversees training of pharmacy staff and assumes responsibility for quantity and quality of their work.
  • In collaboration with Director level pharmacy leadership, assists in leading pharmacy team members; manages personnel including proposing new positions, recruitment, hiring, overseeing and evaluating performance and/or progressive discipline.
  • Fosters an ideal work environment through the promotion of teamwork, recognition, accountability, professional development and active participation of staff to achieve a purposeful and positive work environment.
  • Conducts timely annual performance evaluations of pharmacy team.
  • Adheres to all Federal and State Laws pertaining to dispensing and filling of authorized prescription medications and supplies, including but not limited to receiving and verifying prescriptions, selecting medications and filling prescriptions.
  • Dispenses medication, supplies or equipment accurately and efficiently.
  • Maintains proper documentation and logs.
  • Knowledgeable, compliant and adheres to regulations in dispensing controlled and non-controlled substances, including proper record keeping and documentation including necessary monthly, quarterly, and annual inventory reports.
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with rules and regulations for State Board of Pharmacy, California Department of Public Health, Joint Commission and the Drug Enforcement Agency.
  • Knowledgeable with 340B rules and regulations and ensures pharmacy maintains compliance.
  • Assists customers with insurance issues, including obtaining prior authorizations, contacting physicians or other health providers on possible therapeutic interchanges.
  • Maintains knowledge and facilitates third party insurance, including Prior Authorization process, Medication Formularies, Wellness programs, coupons, discounts, worker’s compensation and other sources of payments, member's enrollment and eligibility.
  • Provides consultation services regarding medication utilization and safety as appropriate for both prescription and over the counter medications, and in guidelines of the California State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Consults with other health care providers, information resources and payers to optimize therapy and maximize safety.
  • Maintains records and reporting in accordance to California State Board of Pharmacy prescription records, electronic records and faxes.
  • Reports, corrects and maintains CURES information, Control Substances log and prescription records, Pharmacy specific records such as prescription logs, sales transactions.
  • Monitors receipts of payments including reconciliation and sales taxes.
  • Provides weekly reports on deposit record and sales transaction reports (if applicable).
  • Assists in maintaining the data bases of all systems used by the Pharmacy, including updates to the systems, trouble shooting, contacting the appropriate helpdesk with issues to resolve.
  • In conjunction with pharmacy administration, determines adequate inventory to process prescriptions in a timely manner.
  • Utilizes cycle counting and other inventory management tools and strategies.
  • Responsible for annual physical inventory.
  • Assists pharmacy administration in Process Improvement and Quality initiatives and processes.
  • Reports any dispensing, medication errors or HIPAA violations in accordance to organization policies.
  • Leads departmental meetings and necessary in-services for training and optimizing pharmacy operations.
  • Schedules staff to maximize patient care and minimize fiscal impact to the pharmacy.
  • Conducts in-person or tele-health pharmacotherapy reviews with patients referred by provider
  • Provides timely and effective communication with referring prescribers and allied healthcare staff regarding patient visits and recommendations according to Kaweah Health policy
  • Is familiar with and utilizes the EMR to document patient visits and recommendations
  • Serves as the medication expert with regards to patient and provider education to optimize disease state management
  • Documents clinical interventions on an ongoing basis.
  • Measures the clinical and economic effectiveness of the services provided on an ongoing basis with formal reporting of the data at defined intervals set by management.
  • Works with patient and provider to optimize medication regimens to decrease adverse outcomes
  • Reviews medications to identify areas and opportunity for cost reduction and savings through therapeutic equivalent alternatives and/or through the organizations 340b program
  • Ensures regulatory compliance with patient referrals and with regards to the 340b program
  • Guides, directs and trains pharmacy technicians assigned as patient care techs to ambulatory care services
  • Participates in the development and implementation of policy and procedures, order sets and/or institutional guidelines to promote safe and effective use of medications.
  • Serves as preceptor for pharmacy residents and interns
