About The Position

This position functions to coordinate all aspects of patients' pharmaceutical needs in OSUMC outpatient and retail areas. Duties include but are not limited to: medication order approval and distribution; assurance of appropriate dose, route, frequency and duration of therapy; patient medication profile review for drug-drug interactions, duplication of therapy, drug allergy interactions and appropriate regimens; patient counseling; disease state management; coordination of patients' pharmaceutical needs with physicians and nurses. Patient population includes pediatric, adult and geriatric patients, must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the ages of the patients served. Must be able to demonstrate medication dosing and identify pharmaceutical needs relative to the disease process and age. Must be able to effectively communicate with patients, other health care professionals, and insurance companies. This position is also responsible for supervising technicians, undergraduate and graduate student teaching, and providing educational programs for hospital/clinic staff (physicians, nurses and pharmacy staff).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college of pharmacy.
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure in Ohio.
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the ages of the patients served (pediatric, adult, and geriatric).
  • Must be able to demonstrate medication dosing and identify pharmaceutical needs relative to the disease process and age.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with patients, other health care professionals, and insurance companies.

Nice To Haves

  • 1-3 years’ experience in retail or health system outpatient pharmacy preferred.
