Responsibilities

  • Sales and Customer Service: Greet customers, be knowledgeable about merchandise, assist customers, encourage merchandise requests, handle customer comments and complaints, ensure cashier counter is attended and neat, answer the telephone.
  • Shop Maintenance and Appearance: Maintain merchandise displays, create displays for new merchandise, maintain a pleasant environment, keep cabinets and stockroom neat, vacuum floors, clean glass, dust shelves, restock merchandise, touch-up displays, keep areas free of safety hazards, ensure shop is orderly at end of day, take trash to dumpster, fill in for Plant Shop Host.
  • Communication: Provide schedule requests in advance, cooperate in solving conflicts, report low levels of merchandise and supplies, report suspicious activities or safety hazards, communicate suggestions and comments to management, be a team player, attend staff meetings and training, read and respond to mail/email/voicemail, answer telephone, serve on committees.
  • Cashiering: Transact cash register sales, transact manual sales during storms, know cash register functions, provide discounts, handle pet pen rentals, handle mobility cart rentals, provide services for special promotions, perform deposit procedures, work with courier for deposits and change, close out and balance cash registers and terminals, perform cash out procedures, run back up and reports.
  • Merchandise Receiving: Follow safety standards for handling boxes, check in merchandise for quantity and quality, report discrepancies, indicate discontinued merchandise SKUs, create/update vendor records and SKUs, establish/update pricing, perform computer receiving, print purchase orders and receiving reports, print price labels, co-ordinate pricing, scan new merchandise pictures, process invoices, handle general office duties and special projects.
  • Inventory Maintenance: Participate in inventory counting, take line or vendor inventory counts.
