About The Position

Retail Student Managers help lead daily unit operations by supporting student staff, keeping service running smoothly, and creating a positive guest experience. Working alongside Retail Dining Supervisors and Managers; Student Managers help organize the team, answer questions, communicate important information, lead operational tasks, and effectively train peers to Retail Dining standards and expectations. Additional expectations include assisting management with minor routine administrative responsibilities and other assigned tasks that support daily operations. This position is a great fit for those who lead by example and exemplify a positive and inclusive demeanor within their peer-to-peer interactions. The Student Management role offers an engaging opportunity to strengthen and cultivate leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills while gaining hands-on management experience in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • Previous leadership or customer service experience is a plus.
  • Comfortable working with and supporting other student employees.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Able to stay organized, take initiative, prioritize tasks and make clear decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfortable taking direction from management while confidently leading peers through assigned operational tasks.
  • Willing to learn all areas of unit specific operations and basic administrative responsibilities.
  • Flexible and dependable with scheduling.
  • Ability to open or close the unit when class schedule allows.

Responsibilities

  • Arrive on time and in proper uniform while maintaining a schedule of up to 3 shifts per week, with a 2-hour minimum per shift.
  • Follow all Dining Services policies, standard operating procedures, and Grubhub menu service and execution procedures.
  • Lead unit specific operations alongside management by overseeing daily workflows, supporting business and operational needs, and ensuring efficient and consistent quality service.
  • Demonstrate flexibility to perform proficiently in all stations and areas within the assigned unit while maintaining a consistent standard of quality in executing/preparing menu items to order.
  • Complete opening and closing duties accurately and check in with management at the beginning of each shift to receive operational updates and priorities.
  • Assist management with routine administrative duties, including assigned paperwork, operational checklists, and other shift-related tasks.
  • Assign and adjust responsibilities throughout the shift based on operational needs and help lead pre-shift meetings as directed.
  • Lead station-specific training while supporting, coaching, and continuously developing fellow student employees, including onboarding new hires to Retail Dining standards and daily procedures.
  • Attend Food Safety, Station Based, Student Management and other mandatory trainings assigned by management (multiple dates and times to be offered as to accommodate all participating students’ class schedules).
  • Anticipate operational needs, work within any unit specific station as needed, and step in wherever support is needed without prompt from management.
  • Report equipment, product, guest, and operational concerns to management in a timely manner using the appropriate documentation provided by management.
  • Foster a positive, professional, and inclusive environment by modeling safe work practices, encouraging teamwork, and leading by example.
  • Continue learning all areas of unit specific operations, communicate all important updates and information with management, and perform other duties as assigned during each shift.
