Retail Construction Superintendent
About The Position
David Nice Builders is seeking a dynamic, travel-ready Retail Construction Superintendent to lead on-site operations for retail construction projects across the nation. This is a critical field leadership role where you will serve as the primary on-site representative of DNB, ensuring every project is delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. As a Traveling Retail Superintendent, you will directly manage subcontractors, field labor, and site logistics while acting as the key liaison with clients, architects, and project stakeholders. Another major focus of this role is site safety leadership, you will serve as the on-site safety supervisor, enforcing OSHA compliance and fostering a strong safety culture on every job. This position requires extensive travel and is ideal for a proactive, highly organized leader who thrives in fast-paced retail environments and takes pride in exceeding client expectations.
Requirements
- Proven track record successfully managing retail construction projects
- Strong knowledge of construction practices, safety regulations, and retail build-out processes
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Ability to submit daily reports, photos, and documentation accurately and on time
- Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and time-management skills
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively

- Prior experience as a traveling superintendent in retail, commercial, or tenant improvement projects
- OSHA 30-Hour Certification
- Construction management software (Trimble a plus)

Responsibilities
- Lead day-to-day on-site operations for retail construction projects, directly supervising subcontractors and field crews
- Maintain strong relationships with owners, architects, engineers, and partners
- Act as the site safety supervisor: enforce OSHA regulations, conduct safety audits, and promote a zero-incident safety culture
- Interpret blueprints and provide technical guidance on mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), and civil work
- Manage project schedules, manpower allocation, and look-ahead planning to meet all deadlines
- Conduct quality inspections and enforce strict quality control standards
- Monitor job costs and profitability; identify and implement cost-saving measures
- Prepare and submit detailed daily reports, photos, and documentation via Procore
- Participate in weekly production and client meetings
