About The Position

Goodwill Industries SELA is seeking a Retail Associate to join their team. This role is crucial in creating a positive and inclusive shopping experience for customers while supporting programs that enhance the dignity and quality of life for individuals and families. The position is full-time and considered entry-level within the Retail Operations department.

Requirements

  • Must be able to interact cordially and productively with a variety of people.
  • Must be able to market Goodwill and explain the mission to the general public.
  • Must establish and maintain effective working relationships with, and among, store personnel while motivating them to their best performance.
  • Must be able to read, write, and communicate clearly in English.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule on short notice, including days, nights, and weekends.
  • Must be able to lift and carry objects up to 25 lbs. frequently and 50 lbs. occasionally.
  • Must be able to use repetitive hand movement when buttoning, sorting, hanging, and zipping garments.
  • Must be able to engage in prolonged standing, walking, and in frequent bending, stooping, and stretching.
  • Must have vision corrected to within normal limits.
  • Must be able to function in a hectic work environment.
  • Must have knowledge of men, women, and children clothing as well as furniture and household items.
  • High School diploma or GED preferred, but not required.
  • Prior work experience in service industry preferred but not required.
  • Must successfully complete Retail training.

Responsibilities

  • Operate cash register, receive payment for purchases, and record sales and other transactions.
  • Sort and hang at least 125 garments an hour with a minimum quality standard of 80%.
  • Check, sort, and price electrical equipment and small wares, preparing them for display.
  • Transfer merchandise from the back room to the sales floor.
  • Ensure a clean and empty workstation at the end of the shift.
  • Rotate store merchandise as directed by store management.
  • Place garments, housewares, etc., on proper floor racks and shelves and restock as necessary.
  • Remove empty hangers from racks on the sales floor and return them to the production area.
  • Assist in security by staying aware of customer activities and reporting suspicious activity or theft to management.
  • Dispose of trash and unusable merchandise into the outside dumpster and break down cardboard boxes for recycling.
  • Keep the store clean and hazard-free by vacuuming, mopping, and dusting, including cleaning bathrooms.
  • Keep aisles free from debris in production and sales floor areas.
  • Greet donors and assist them with donations, issuing receipts.
  • Assist customers with general information.
  • Follow company policies and safety procedures.
  • Attend work regularly as scheduled.
