As a representative of the school, the RJ Coordinator must present a professional, courteous, and friendly attitude when interacting with students, parents, staff, and the public. This position requires the counselor to remain calm and poised in stressful situations and work toward solutions and possibilities. The RJ Coordinator maintains confidentiality and uses discretion in all aspects of communication. In addition to the duties and responsibilities listed below, we seek Restorative Justice Coordinators who are collaborative with colleagues, empathetic in their relationships with students and families, and willing to work above and beyond their job description in order to ensure success for students. The Restorative Justice Coordinator supports the development of a positive and inclusive school culture by implementing restorative practices that strengthen relationships, address conflict, and promote accountability. This role works closely with students, teachers, families, and school leadership to build a community where harm is addressed through reflection, dialogue, and repair. The coordinator supports proactive culture-building practices while also facilitating restorative processes when conflicts arise. The Restorative Justice Coordinator collaborates with the Dean, counseling staff, and MTSS teams to ensure students receive appropriate behavioral and social-emotional support. The Restorative Justice Coordinator focuses on culture & equity and is responsible for supporting the needs of the students in the school and for working with students, parents, and other teachers to achieve the goals set forth in the High Point Academy Purpose and Equity Statements. This person is responsible for supporting, implementing and reporting on adherence to school rules, behavior plans, and any other documentation that supports our students to successfully meet school behavior expectations and participate in a respective, reflective learning environment. They bring knowledge of accountability, restorative practices and social emotional learning to support all scholars to become reflective members of our community.

Requirements

  • Possess a high school diploma or its equivalent (e.g., the GED);
  • Aptitude for the work to be performed, including knowledge of restorative practices that are developmentally appropriate in a Pk-8 Context.
  • Expert-level written and oral communication skills
  • Commitment to HPA approved culture programming. (LeaderInMe and EL Education's Crew)
  • Entrepreneurial outlook and charter school commitment
  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate clearly
  • Strong self-starter; able to work with limited direction, and ability to problem solve
  • Ability to apply superb judgment

Nice To Haves

  • Associates or better
  • Experience working with Pk-8 students specifically with exhibited behavior challenges
  • Experience with, and knowledge of, restorative practices
  • Experience developing lessons based on student data, developing plans to address behavior/SEL needs, and reflecting on the effectiveness of support plans.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate restorative circles, mediations, and conflict resolution processes
  • Lead restorative conferences following incidents of harm or conflict
  • Support student reflection and accountability through restorative conversations
  • Facilitate re-entry meetings for students returning from suspension or significant behavior incidents
  • Help students identify the impact of their actions and develop meaningful plans to repair harm.
  • Maintain documentation of restorative processes, agreements, and next steps.
  • Provide proactive restorative supports that reduce repeat incidents and strengthen belonging.
  • Provide targeted support to students needing additional behavioral or social-emotional guidance
  • Work with individuals or small groups of students to develop skills in conflict resolution, emotional regulation, and accountability
  • Support students in developing strategies for repairing harm and rebuilding relationships
  • Creates pathways for student leadership by ensuring that students have a way to voice their concerns to work with adults to solve problems with peers and staff
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and monitoring of student behavior support plans.
  • Support students with repeated or elevated behavior concerns through consistent check-ins, reflection, and intervention planning.
  • Collaborate with counselors, teachers, and leadership to match students with appropriate behavioral and social-emotional supports.
  • Help students transition successfully back into the classroom and school community following conflict or disciplinary action.
  • Support partner in the implementation of the school's culture frameworks: EL Education's Crew & LeaderInMe's 7 Habits
  • Help design restorative and SEL experiences within Crew
  • Support Crew Leaders in facilitating difficult conversations
  • Support Crew as a space for reflection and repair when harm occurs
  • Support the strengthening of student voice and accountability
  • Embody and promote the 7 Habits in conversations with students, staff and families
  • Facilitate proactive community-building circles and relationship-building activities
  • Promote student voice and leadership opportunities related to school culture
  • Model and promote restorative language, respectful communication, and relational problem-solving throughout the school.
  • Reinforce consistent schoolwide behavior expectations and contribute to a reflective, respectful, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Support schoolwide initiatives that build belonging, accountability, equity, and positive student culture.
  • Collaborate with teachers to address classroom conflicts through restorative strategies
  • Provide support to staff implementing restorative practices in classrooms
  • Partner with the Dean and MTSS team to design and monitor behavior support plans
  • Supports the implementation and ongoing success of "Culture of Crew" among students as it relates to both Restorative and SEL Practices
  • Track, organize, and maintain accurate records related to student behavior, restorative interventions, accountability plans, and relevant attendance or culture data.
  • Monitor student behavior trends across grade levels, classrooms, student groups, time of day, locations, and incident types.
  • Analyze data to identify patterns, root causes, and areas of concern related to behavior, discipline, and school climate.
  • Use data to inform decisions, prioritize supports, and recommend interventions for individual students, small groups, grade levels, and schoolwide systems.
  • Help ensure that restorative and behavioral data is used not just for reporting, but for continuous improvement and problem-solving.
  • Communication is timely and maintains appropriate professional boundaries
  • Communication is aligned with both school and team expectations
  • Communicate with families regarding restorative processes and student accountability plans
  • Partner with families to support student growth and behavior improvement
