About The Position

Prepare food of consistent quality and assist in kitchen functions at Embassy Suites by Hilton San Diego Bay - Downtown, an all-suite hotel in downtown San Diego. The position prepares food according to recipe cards, production and portion standards, and server checks; assists with preparation, line setup, buffet stocking, food storage, and food-cost controls; and operates, maintains, and cleans kitchen equipment. Hotel experience is preferred. Candidates must be able to meet the stated dexterity, lifting, communication, and attendance requirements, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Requirements

Finger and hand dexterity to operate food machinery, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Ability to grasp, lift, carry, or otherwise move goods weighing up to 100 lbs. on a continuous schedule, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to adapt communication style to different audiences, including supervisors, coworkers, and the public.

Responsibilities

Prepare food of consistent quality following recipe cards and production and portion standards, per server checks.
Start food items prepared ahead of time while avoiding over-preparation.
Date food containers and rotate food; keep perishables at proper temperatures.
Check pars for shift use and determine necessary preparation, freezer pulls, and line setup.
Note out-of-stock items and possible shortages.
Assist in keeping the buffet stocked.
Return unused food items to designated storage areas for the next shift, covering and dating perishables.
Assist with plans and actions to correct food-cost problems and control food waste, loss, and usage according to HEI Hotels and Resorts standards.
Operate, maintain, and properly clean kitchen equipment.
Comply with attendance rules and be available to work regularly.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
