About The Position

Supports the production of fiber optic cable. This role involves selecting cable for respooling, setting up and operating respooling machinery, printing and washing finished cables, stripping jackets off defective cables, and inspecting finished cables for anomalies. The operator is responsible for completing all required documentation, recognizing production defects, and assisting in problem-solving. Adherence to safety procedures and company values is essential.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Six months related experience and/or training preferred.
  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to operate a machine in a production environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to use tools and measuring devices properly.
  • Ability to read and follow basic instructions.
  • Ability to understand and implement quality procedures.
  • Math and handwriting skills required.
  • Ability to correctly complete all documentation.
  • Ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision.
  • Pays close attention to detail with the ability to complete assignments accurately.
  • Ability to recognize and help resolve problems.
  • Regularly required to stand and walk.
  • Requires manual dexterity using hands to finger, handle, or feel for inspecting activities.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50lbs.
  • Requires sight sufficient for significant reading and computer use, including color vision.
  • Requires hearing sufficient for communication with coworkers and awareness of alarms.
  • Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles.

Responsibilities

  • Selects cable to be respooled/striped/cut/printed based on production priorities.
  • Sets up and respools all standard cable products.
  • Prints finished cables and washes off print as required.
  • Stripes in-process sub-straights as required.
  • Strips jackets off defective cables.
  • Observes, measures, and inspects finished cables for anomalies and corrects per supervisor instructions.
  • Correctly completes all documentation specific to this job function.
  • Recognizes various defects and problems that arise during production and assists in solving them or notifies supervisor.
  • Conducts all activities in accordance with safety procedures and guidelines.
  • Dashes fibers for jobs.
  • Promotes OCC’s service excellence and quality.
