About The Position

The RTI Coordinator and Academic Coach is a dual-threat instructional leader responsible for the health of the school’s academic interventions. This role focuses on ensuring that the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) is functioning effectively to catch students before they fail. You will spend your time analyzing student data, coaching teachers on differentiated instruction, and managing the logistical "gears" of Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or Reading Specialist certification.
  • 5+ years of successful classroom teaching with demonstrated gains in student achievement.
  • Deep knowledge of the Science of Reading, pedagogical frameworks (e.g., UDL), and diagnostic assessments.
  • Advanced skill in Excel/Google Sheets for data manipulation and visualization.
  • Ability to understand instructions and underlying principles.
  • Ability to reason and make judgments.
  • Ability to understand the meanings of words and the ideas associated with them.
  • Ability to perform arithmetic operations quickly and accurately.
  • Ability to move the hands and fingers easily.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the administration of school-wide screenings (e.g., NWEA MAP, i-Ready, DIBELS) to identify students in need of support.
  • Design and oversee the schedule for Tier 2 (small group) and Tier 3 (intensive) interventions in Reading and Math.
  • Ensure that interventionists and teachers are collecting valid data at required intervals to determine if a student is responding to the current strategy.
  • Conduct non-evaluative observations and "coaching cycles" to help teachers improve their Tier 1 (core) instruction.
  • Frequently model research-based instructional strategies and "push-in" to classrooms to demonstrate effective small-group differentiation.
  • Lead staff workshops on data literacy, scaffolding techniques, and the use of intervention technology.
  • Facilitate regular "Data War Room" meetings where grade-level teams review student work and pivot instruction based on evidence.
  • Collaborate with the Special Education department to provide documentation for students who may require evaluation after failing to respond to intensive RTI.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of current intervention software and curricula, making recommendations for future purchases.
