Responsable / Directeur, Gouvernance des données et architecture analytique

ValtechMontreal, QC
$150,000 - $200,000Hybrid

About The Position

Valtech is seeking a client-oriented senior data leader to serve as a strategic partner in data governance, analytical architecture, and the definition of governed data products. This role acts as a critical bridge between client business stakeholders and a hybrid client/engineering delivery team, ensuring decisions align with a clear and consistent data governance and analytics strategy. The leader will help define the data governance program's operation, draft and disseminate architecture and process standards, translate business priorities into structured data and reporting requirements, and guide engineering teams toward sustainable and scalable target solutions. This role is particularly important in environments where governance rigor, reporting integrity, and analytical product clarity need enhancement, without direct ownership of upstream data pipeline implementation. It's a capability-focused leadership role requiring a strong blend of governance leadership, architectural judgment, structured stakeholder management, and practical guidance for engineering and analytics teams. It is neither a narrow specialist position nor primarily a delivery management role focused solely on execution.

Requirements

  • Advanced English skills
  • Significant experience leading data governance, data architecture, analytical architecture, or governed data product initiatives in client-facing environments.
  • Strong executive stakeholder management experience, including the ability to work directly with business leaders, steering committees, and senior cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Experience translating business needs into structured target-state requirements for engineering teams.
  • Solid understanding of data governance operating models, metadata management and data cataloging approaches, medallion architecture concepts, semantic and reporting integrity considerations, and KPI and analytical product design.
  • Experience drafting standards, frameworks, methodology documents, and reusable delivery artifacts.
  • Ability to engage in and lead discussions spanning architecture, engineering, and business, without needing to own direct responsibility for every operational implementation detail.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Microsoft Purview on Azure.
  • Familiarity with dbt and modern analytical engineering patterns.
  • Knowledge of Snowflake-based ecosystems in a stakeholder or dependency-oriented capacity, even without direct building within Snowflake.
  • Consulting or hybrid client-service delivery experience.
  • Experience within programs requiring strong alignment between governance, reporting, and executive decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary liaison between senior client business leaders, including executive sponsors and C-suite stakeholders, and a hybrid client/engineering delivery team.
  • Facilitate structured decision-making, feedback loops, and alignment forums connecting business priorities with delivery realities.
  • Translate ambiguous or evolving strategic objectives into clear governance, architecture, and analytics workstreams.
  • Define the direction of the data governance program's operation through ongoing guidance, process documentation, and operational model refinement.
  • Connect engineering and business teams around a common data governance strategy and target roadmap, informed by structured feedback from client-side contacts and executive stakeholders.
  • Provide governance clarity on metadata, standards, business definitions, and downstream reporting integrity.
  • Collaborate with client leadership to evolve governance practices using Microsoft Purview on Azure.
  • Draft specification documents for gold tables defining target ETL pipeline outputs in a medallion architecture.
  • Translate needs for KPIs, reporting, detailed analysis (drill-down), and business decision-making into structured, engineering-ready specifications.
  • Guide architecture and semantic layer decisions to improve downstream analytical trust, reusability, and consistency.
  • Draft and disseminate architecture standards, patterns, and design decisions across teams.
  • Drive portfolio rationalization as an explicit sprint activity using a defined keep/refactor/retire methodology.
  • Continuously evolve the methodology, validate criteria with client-side leadership, and identify appropriate business stakeholders for each rationalization decision.
  • Ensure portfolio decisions consider business and governance implications and are realistic and actionable for delivery teams.
  • Review and contribute to the definition of analytical products and their delivery planning, including use cases like Scheduling Optimization.
  • Shape KPI definitions, phased roadmaps, drill-down structures, and associated architectural decisions.
  • Help teams connect product value, business adoption, and governed data design.
  • Draft and disseminate data architecture standards to protect data quality and reporting integrity.
  • Improve consistency in how governed analytical assets, documentation, and design decisions are created and maintained across teams.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership, coaching, and structured guidance to practitioners in engineering, architecture, and related analytical delivery.
  • Enhance delivery quality by elevating standards for documentation, design clarity, stakeholder communication, and cross-team handoffs.
  • Support staffing discussions and role definition decisions for work spanning governance, architecture, analytical engineering, and business-driven delivery.
  • Define terminology, reference architectures, and maturity models that differentiate Valtech in Data and AI domains.

Benefits

  • Flexibility, with remote or hybrid work options
  • Growth opportunities, with international mobility and professional development programs
