About The Position

Little Friends, Inc. offers an unpaid internship program for college students to gain real-life career experience and earn college credit. This program allows students to enhance their classroom learning by supporting individuals with developmental disabilities. Interns become valued team members, taking on projects that enhance the lives of those with special needs. The experience gained provides a better appreciation for academic learning and prepares students for future careers. The Respite Intern is crucial in providing care and support for children in the Little Friends Respite Program. Interns will gain practical experience in child psychology by planning activities, mentoring volunteers, leading children's activities, and assisting with data collection. The program's goal is to offer regular breaks to caregivers of children with disabilities and their siblings, thereby reducing caregiver stress. This internship fosters professional skills vital for a psychology career, including planning and executing goals, effective communication, teamwork, time management, organization, and accountability.

Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Physical ability to assist with the needs of children up to 100 lbs
  • Ability to respond to individual behavior challenges

Nice To Haves

  • Completed coursework in psychology or related field (special education, child development, pre-OT, neurodiversity studies, etc.) preferred.
