This specific role is a permanent part-time position within the In-Home Program, supporting an adult female participant in Southwest Edmonton. The Community Specialist II (CS II) reports to the assigned Program Manager and is a highly experienced direct support role, typically handling more complex and specialized situations, behaviors, or environments. The CS II works on the front lines, playing a pivotal role in creating a safe, caring, and community-enriched life for participants and their families. They are responsible for thoughtful programming, planning, and implementation to help participants connect with their communities, establish real relationships, and create meaningful days and lives. The CSII is expected to act with integrity, be open to growth, live the company purpose, cultivate teamwork, and put forth extraordinary effort to empower people with disabilities and their families.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience working with children, youth and young adults or vulnerable individuals in a health care setting, school, or home setting
  • Experience and confidence in supporting individuals who may exhibit behaviours that limit their ability to access or participate in community
  • Experience and confidence in providing personal care and medical care needs

  • Minimum education requirement of a High School Diploma and a minimum of 2-3 years of related experience; or graduation from an appropriate post-secondary program with a Certificate or Diploma (Disability Studies, Human Services, Social Work, Kinesiology, Physical Therapy, Psychology, Sociology, or Education or Education Assistant)
  • Hands-on experience working with individuals with complex behaviors which limit their inclusion in community and/or programs
  • Clear Police Information Check and Intervention Record Check are required upon hire
  • Intermediate First Aid Certification CPR Level C and AED is required upon hire
  • Clean class 5 driver's license and a vehicle is required
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, Abuse Prevention and Response Protocol, and Medication Administration certification are required

  • Provide direct care and purposeful support with individuals identified as exhibiting behaviours that may limit access to community in an engaging, fun, and safe environment
  • Implement person-centered and behaviour plans designed to support and assist participants
  • Facilitate inclusion for individuals with complex and/or specialized situations
  • Deliver and adapt programs and services in an engaging and meaningful manner that imparts growth, success, and belonging
  • Foster genuine relationships promoting dignity, personal interests and identities
  • Empower individuals to create meaningful days and achieve their goals
  • Communicate effectively with integrity to individuals, families, and co-workers
  • Assist, support, and encourage individuals to advocate on their own behalf and achieve their personal goals through various development activities
  • Maintain timely, accurate and professional documents in accordance with AdaptAbilities policies and procedures
  • Perform other job-related activities as required
