About The Position

The Respiratory Therapy Department (RTD) supports the delivery of specialized clinical services across acute care settings, including respiratory, critical care, and advanced therapeutic interventions. The Respiratory Technician Assistant is an integral member of the RTD team, responsible for ensuring the availability, functionality, and readiness of respiratory equipment and supplies. The role supports clinical operations through equipment assembly, preventative maintenance, inventory management, reprocessing preparation, and coordination of equipment and supply flow across the organization. Reporting to the Clinical Manager, the ideal candidate will work both independently and collaboratively interprofessional teams across ICU, Emergency Department, Inpatient units, Labor & Delivery, NICU, MDRD and Biomedical Engineering, and Supply Chain to support safe, efficient, high quality patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Assembly and prepare respiratory equipment (e.g., ventilators, AIRVO, heated humidification systems, and other related equipment) following reprocessing.
  • Perform routine maintenance, functional checks, and basic troubleshooting.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance and service documentation.
  • Coordinate equipment repairs/maintenance with Biomedical Engineering.
  • Monitor and maintain stock levels of respiratory supplies and equipment.
  • Restock and organize clinical areas to ensure readiness.
  • Support inventory audits of department and programs’ equipment.
  • Place and track supply orders.
  • Prepare and transport equipment for cleaning and reprocessing in accordance with infection control standards.
  • Inspect returned equipment and ensure readiness for use.
  • Respond to requests for equipment and supplies across clinical areas.
  • Prepares, delivers and retrieves equipment between units and support departments (Stores, Receiving, Biomedical Engineering, MDRD).
  • Assist with medical gas pipeline shutdowns (in collaboration with Engineering).
  • Support medical gas cylinder management and related processes.
  • Prepare and check intubation trays Code carts as required.
  • Liaise with vendors and internal departments to support equipment and supply needs.
  • Participate in the equipment evaluations and data collection.
  • Support education activities and performs other duties as assigned.
