The Respiratory Therapy Student assumes responsibility for performing patient care activities and other tasks that contribute to high-quality, safe, and effective patient care, such as executing protocols, administering respiratory care, and educating patients, families and other care providers. This role involves administering, monitoring, and assessing the effectiveness of respiratory care for inpatients and outpatients of all developmental levels, under the supervision of a licensed Respiratory Therapist. The student will use independent judgment in applying respiratory care protocols, demonstrate accountability for their actions and learning needs, and maintain a patient-centered focus while supporting the hospital's mission and values. Effective communication with physicians, health system staff, patients, and families is essential, as is the ability to educate patients and family members on cardio-respiratory topics. The role also requires assuming responsibility for risk and safety issues, assisting with patient ambulation, and moving equipment within the campus.
