About The Position

Stamford Health is pleased to offer an exciting opportunity through our 2026 Respiratory Extern Summer Program. This seven‑week program, beginning July 6, 2026, offers students the opportunity to gain experience under the guidance of our expert respiratory care team. Three student positions are available. Schedule: 7am-3pm (5 shifts weekly, weekends available) Applications are due by June 1st, 2026 Practicum Goal: Provide a comprehensive program to enable a student entering the final year of a Respiratory Therapy associate degree or baccalaureate program to acquire the knowledge, skills, and professional behaviors to deliver safe, quality care that meets defined (organizational or professional society) standards of practice in a comprehensive non-critical setting under the preceptorship of an experienced Registered Respiratory Therapist. The fellowship will encompass organizational orientation, practice-based experience, and supplemental activities to promote continuing professional development in Respiratory Care. Eligibility: This Fellowship is available to a rising student from a school of Respiratory Therapy , with preference to schools affiliated with Stamford Health. To be eligible for this Fellowship, a candidate must have at minimum, successfully completed the first year of the Respiratory Therapy associate program with a minimum 3.2 cumulative GPA and be in “good standing” status at their school. Application: Applications will include a detailed essay demonstrating applicants’ strong desire to practice in the respiratory care setting, Planetree ideology and enculturation of Stamford Hospital’s core values which include teamwork, compassion, integrity, respect, and accountability. Supplemental requirements will include a resume, official transcript and two letters of recommendation.
