About The Position

Capital Health is seeking a Respiratory Therapy Educator to join their Clinical Education team. This is a full-time position working days. The educator will coordinate the development of orientation plans for healthcare providers, individualizing them based on experience and learning needs. They will assist department managers in updating and monitoring the orientation process, and evaluate the progress of orientees. The role involves demonstrating effective teaching skills, using various instructional methods, and planning/presenting programs to meet assessed learning needs of healthcare providers, patients, and the community. The educator will exercise discretion and judgment in providing educational opportunities and evaluate program outcome effectiveness. They will disseminate information about learning offerings, integrate evidence-based practice and regulatory standards into educational activities, and participate in developing/maintaining educational materials. The role also includes developing education programs for the population served in a collaborative environment, demonstrating knowledge of current healthcare standards, and functioning as a resource in an advising and guiding role. The educator will assist staff, preceptors, and orientees with work-related activities, ensure compliance with regulatory agency standards (DNV, DOH, CAP, CLIA), and participate in performance improvement and regulatory requirement data collection. They will develop and update standards, objectives, policies, and procedures using evidence-based practice, and participate in resolving clinical issues requiring educational intervention. Facilitating critical thinking, assessing learning needs, promoting participation in performance improvement and regulatory requirements, and assisting with competency development are key aspects of the role. The educator will also participate in departmental and hospital-wide quality improvement projects, promote learning activities that enable healthcare providers to integrate evidence-based medicine, and promote the professional development of Capital Health employees. Assisting with performance appraisals, assessing and documenting staff competence, participating in staff meetings and committees, and assisting in maintaining records for educational activities are also responsibilities. The role promotes accuracy and completeness of documentation in the patient medical record and participates in performance improvement, regulatory requirement data collection, and documentation. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned upon request.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an AMA approved and accredited program of study in Respiratory Care.
  • BSRT or Bachelor’s degree in a Biological Science required.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT).
  • Requires ACCS (Adult Critical Care Specialist) and NPS (Neonatal Pediatric Specialist) or must obtain within one year of hire date.
  • Three years' experience working as a Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner in an acute care healthcare facility.
  • Experience in staff training and performing competency assessment for other staff.
  • AHA ACLS or must obtain within 6 months of hire date.
  • AHA BLS - Healthcare Provider.
  • AHA NRP or must obtain within 6 months of hire date.
  • AHA PALS or must obtain within 6 months of hire date.
  • Respiratory Care Practitioner
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and classroom techniques.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates the development of orientation plans for the health care providers.
  • Individualizes the orientation plan based on the experience level and learning needs of the orientee.
