Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) AND at least 3-years of experience in a direct patient care role OR Active enrollment in, or graduation from, an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
  • Must be able to learn and perform CPR.
  • Must have good verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to interact with a variety of individuals.
  • Have strong independent problem-solving skills to respond to unpredictable situations.
  • Maturity, initiative, commitment to patient and customer service, and good judgment are required.
  • Ability to work harmoniously in a team environment.
  • Expected to follow proper precautions to avoid potential exposure to infectious agents, hazardous substances, noise, and heat.
  • Good manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination to work with equipment.
  • Must be able to differentiate medical life support gases.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous knowledge of medical terminology/abbreviations helpful.
  • CPR will be taught if not already BLS trained.

Responsibilities

  • Provides support for respiratory care services for the treatment of patients with disordered respiratory physiology under the direction of a registered respiratory therapist.
  • Responsible for delivering varied oxygen devices on a timely basis.
  • Performs hospital-wide rounds on a daily basis to monitor and provide service to patients using respiratory support devices.
  • Supports the respiratory therapists, nurses, and physicians with their equipment/supplies needs, work lists, workload data throughout the Mayo complex.
  • Serves in the department communications center and provides information management and data entry for department billing, QA database, and in support of research studies.
  • Member of the hospital Code Blue team, performing CPR as required.
