About The Position

Join Ingalls Memorial Hospital, a comprehensive academic medical center, as a detail-driven Respiratory Therapist - Registry - Per Diem - PRN in the Respiratory Care Services team. The department provides quality individualized care for adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients using highly trained Registered Respiratory Therapists (RRT), advanced technology, and defined patient protocols. In this role, the Respiratory Therapist administers respiratory care treatments, procedures, and protocols under the supervision of leadership and physicians. They assess patients' cardiopulmonary status, implement care protocols, and manage emergent and non-emergent non-invasive and invasive mechanical ventilation.

Requirements

  • An Associate’s degree from an approved & accredited Respiratory Care Program.
  • An active certification as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) from the National Board for Respiratory Care.
  • A current Respiratory Care Practitioner license in the State of Illinois or eligibility to obtain said license prior to start.
  • An active Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Demonstrates effective & accurate communication and documentation skills (both verbal and written communications).

Nice To Haves

  • A Bachelor’s degree or higher from an approved & accredited Respiratory Care Program.
  • A Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification depending upon the patient care area assigned and the primary patient population served.

Responsibilities

  • Administers supplemental oxygen/medical gas therapy as prescribed or via established protocols, documenting accurately in the EPIC electronic medical record.
  • Administers intermittent or continuous medication delivery therapy as prescribed or via established protocols, documenting in real-time.
  • Assesses patient status during modality administration.
  • Administers bronchopulmonary hygiene, suctioning, and airway care procedures.
  • Implements airway clearance techniques per physician order or departmental protocols, documenting appropriately.
  • Initiates and maintains non-invasive ventilation (NIV) procedures, assessing patient status and equipment tolerance, and making necessary adjustments.
  • Initiates, maintains, and assesses mechanical ventilation, recommending and implementing weaning plans per physician order or departmental protocols.
  • Provides ventilator management (NIV and mechanical ventilation) and hemodynamic monitoring/reporting.
  • Performs Arterial Blood Gas (ABG) analysis per guidelines, troubleshoots analyzers, and performs quality control.
  • Reports ABG results accurately and timely.
  • Provides for patient transport when patients are on oxygen delivery systems or mechanical ventilators.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
