About The Position

This PRN position requires a Respiratory Therapist to administer medically prescribed medications and therapeutic modalities, including HHN and lung expansion therapy. The role involves setting up and monitoring oxygen delivery systems, performing arterial punctures, and managing artificial airways. Responsibilities also include administering mechanical ventilation (BiPap and CPAP), understanding various oxygen delivery systems, and utilizing measuring devices such as pulse oximeters and ETCO2 monitors. The therapist will be responsible for the setup, safety checks, monitoring, and troubleshooting of mechanical ventilators, as well as maintaining accurate patient records in the EMR and documenting all patient charges.

Requirements

Basic Life Safety (BLS) certification
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
Texas state license
Registered Respiratory Therapist by the National Board of Respiratory Care
Minimum five years in an acute care setting

Responsibilities

Administer medically prescribed medications, knowing their indications and contraindications.
Administer therapeutic modalities including HHN and lung expansion therapy.
Set up and monitor oxygen delivery systems, including cylinders, ensuring proper usage and safety.
Perform arterial punctures using radial and brachial sites.
Draw off arterial lines to obtain samples for blood gas analysis.
Perform all aspects of artificial airway care, including deep blind tracheal suctioning.
Administer all types of mechanical ventilation, including BiPap and CPAP.
Familiarize with oxygen delivery systems (e.g., nasal, venturi mask).
Familiarize with measuring devices (e.g., pulse oximeter, respirometer, ETCO2).
Set up, perform safety checks, monitor, and troubleshoot mechanical ventilators.
Maintain accurate and legible records, documenting clinical notes in EMR.
Complete documentation of all patient charges.
