About The Position

The Respiratory Therapist I (RT I) provides a full range of diagnostic and therapeutic respiratory care services to patients of all age groups. Responds to cardiopulmonary emergencies providing airway maintenance and manual and mechanical ventilatory support using a variety of devices and techniques. Administers therapeutic gases, inhaled aerosol medications and humidity therapy. Obtains, reviews, and interprets data and assesses the need for and response to respiratory care interventions and consults with medical and nursing personnel to optimize patient care planning. Performs arterial blood gas analysis and a variety of cardiopulmonary diagnostic procedures. Provides patient and family instruction in respiratory therapy self-administration and proper use of equipment and supplies.

Requirements

  • Must possess a valid license to practice as a Respiratory Therapist in California.
  • Must have current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Must have current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Must have current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Must have a minimum of one year of experience as a Respiratory Therapist.
  • Must have experience with mechanical ventilation and airway management.
  • Must have experience with arterial blood gas analysis and interpretation.
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with UCSF electronic health record system.
  • Experience with critical care settings.
  • Experience with neonatal and pediatric respiratory care.
