The Resource Respiratory Therapist will utilize respiratory therapy processes to support patient assessment, including pulmonary diagnostics, chest radiograph interpretation, hemodynamic values, and laboratory values, correlating blood gases and electrolytes. This role identifies and addresses the special needs of patient populations specific to department services. The therapist will operate specialized ventilators in critical and non-critical care settings, assist physicians with bedside procedures, and provide medication treatments and therapies per physician order or patient-driven respiratory protocols. Responsibilities include cleaning, maintaining, and ensuring the proper functionality of equipment, troubleshooting as necessary, and educating patients on therapy goals and disease management. The role also involves facilitating clinical problem-solving, collaborating with other departments, adapting to policies and procedures across various service areas, and demonstrating effective communication, feedback, and conflict resolution skills. Promoting a culture of safety by applying proper safety measures and reporting patient safety events is crucial. Additionally, the therapist will teach, educate, and precept new teammates, orientees, and students, demonstrating knowledge and skills appropriate for the age of patients served.
