About The Position

Practices in accordance with the standards of professional practice as outlined by the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT) as well as within a patient and family centred care model and the vision and values of the organization. This role performs ongoing respiratory care in an interdisciplinary setting to patients with tracheostomies and/or variety of illnesses/diseases including, but not limited to acute and/or chronic respiratory illnesses or pathologies of the airway. Enhances quality of life from the perspective of the patient/family by consulting, conferring and collaborating with other health care professionals. Demonstrates continuous improvement and best practice approach in respiratory practice. Conducts various cardiac diagnostic tests such as Electrocardiogram (ECG), stress testing and Holter Monitoring for analysis and interpretation by medical staff. Maintains and advances own clinical competence and participates on committees/teams and approved research projects as assigned. ABOUT SECHELT HOSPITAL Sechelt Hospital is an acute care, 46-bed facility located in Sechelt, British Columbia and serves over 30,000+ residents of the Lower Sunshine Coast. Sechelt Hospital provides a full range of services to the community, including Emergency care, Renal program – community dialysis units, Mental Health and Substance Use Services, surgical services, birthing for low-risk pregnancies and imaging services. ABOUT SECHELT, BC The District Municipality of Sechelt is located on the lower Sunshine Coast of British Columbia, approximately 50 km northwest of Vancouver. It is accessible from the mainland by a 40-minute ferry trip between Horseshoe Bay and Langdale, followed by a 25-minute drive along Highway 101, also known as the Sunshine Coast Highway. Requirements

  • Successful completion of the Health Professionals Testing Canada Credentialing Exam.
  • Eligible for membership with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists and BC Society of Respiratory Therapists.
  • Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy Program.
  • Completion of additional coursework and clinical training in conduction of ECG, Holter Monitor and Stress Tests.
  • Broad knowledge of CSRT standards of practice and clinical practice guidelines.
  • Broad knowledge of current respiratory care theory and practices within a patient/family centred model of care.
  • Basic knowledge of research process and methodology.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and implement care plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess patient responses to care, and to respond appropriately.
  • Demonstrated ability to adjust to unexpected events, problem-solve, set priorities and deal with conflict.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate (verbally and in writing) and deal effectively with patients and their families, coworkers, physicians, other health care staff, and staff of external agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership through initiative and independence.
  • Demonstrated ability to use the department policy and procedure manual.
  • Demonstrated skill in clinical techniques and the use of applicable equipment and supplies.
  • Demonstrated ability in CPR techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate equipment including applicable software applications.
  • Demonstrated computer skills including the ability to effectively use a computerized patient care information system.
  • Demonstrated physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
