Mercyhealth is seeking a dedicated and skilled Respiratory Therapist to join our team. This full-time position involves performing routine therapies to aid in the treatment, diagnosis, and evaluation of cardiopulmonary status. The role includes initiating, monitoring, evaluating, and weaning invasive and non-invasive ventilation, making parameter recommendations based on clinical assessment and patient response. You will initiate and provide ongoing evaluation of treatment regimes, including medication delivery and oxygen administration through therapist-driven protocols. This involves assessing patients to determine needs related to treatment therapies, frequencies, and duration ordered by a physician. You will assess patients clinically before and after treatments, recommend appropriate therapy changes, and monitor, assess, educate, and document patient and/or family on therapies, medications, goals, and equipment. Accurate and timely documentation in the patient electronic medical record and departmental records is essential. Competence in setting up, calibrating, and troubleshooting mechanical ventilators, noninvasive ventilation devices, therapeutic bronchoscopies, and pulmonary function screens is required. Responsibilities also include cleaning, assembling, and maintaining equipment, stocking supplies, performing and documenting emergency rounds, oxygen saturation checks, and titrating oxygen per protocol. Therapies must be performed in strict compliance with universal precautions and proper body mechanics, using sound judgment. You will respond to emergent care situations, assist with resuscitation, and provide chest compressions, airway management, and ventilatory support. Transporting adult patients on mechanical ventilators, non-invasive ventilation devices, and critically ill patients to intrahospital procedures is also part of the role. Providing developmentally appropriate care for pediatric and adult patients, considering age-related and other needs, is expected. Proficiency in processing and interpreting point-of-care blood gases, glucose, and electrolytes, and collaborating on quality control, may be required. On-call coverage may be needed, and other duties as assigned.
