About The Position

This Per Diem Level I Respiratory Therapist position is for night shifts at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, IL. The role requires the ability to work 48 hours every 6 weeks, with 24 of those hours falling on a weekend. Shifts will vary Monday-Friday from 7pm - 7:30am, and holiday requirements are also in effect. The Respiratory Therapist will assist physicians with procedures, provide respiratory therapy to a wide range of patients, assess patients for appropriate treatment methods, document all activities, educate patients and families, monitor patient responses to therapy, and provide patient and staff education.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a nationally accredited Respiratory Therapy program, as determined by the Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC), required.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or proof of registry eligible status, required.
  • State of Illinois Respiratory Care Practitioner licensure required within 6 months of employment.
  • Current CPR certification issued by the American Heart Association, required.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program), and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) required within 24 months of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Assists Physicians, as requested with Respiratory Therapy procedures
  • Provide respiratory therapy to neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients as ordered by physicians according hospital policy and procedures
  • Assess patients to determine most suitable method of administering treatment
  • Document treatment, equipment maintenance and quality control activities and transcribe verbal or phone order by physicians
  • Communicate to patient and family the treatment being performed in a clear manner
  • Monitor patient physiological response to therapy with special attention to the pediatric and neonatal patients
  • Provide patient and staff education
