About The Position

MercyOne is looking to hire a Respiratory Therapist. As a Respiratory Therapist at MercyOne, you will be responsible for the administration of routine respiratory care to all pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. This role involves working in various clinical areas including general acute care, intensive care, emergency department, surgical suites, recovery rooms, skilled nursing facilities, and other clinical areas. The position requires performing a range of procedures such as incentive spirometry, aerosol therapy, oxygen therapy, pulmonary drainage, BIPAP/CPAP, ventilator management, therapeutic bronchoscopy, co-oximetry, ekg, holter, zio, intubation assist, extubation, blood gas sampling and analysis, and outpatient testing. The therapist will assess patients, respond to resuscitation and rapid response pages, and provide patient education. MercyOne North Iowa is the largest provider of health care services in its region and a significant employer in Cerro Gordo County. It is a private, not-for-profit health care center serving a large number of inpatients and outpatients annually, and also functions as a teaching institution with various residency and fellowship programs, and clinical training sites for numerous medical fields.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; or associate degree in chemical, physical or biological science required.
  • Graduate of respiratory therapy program required or board-eligible within a few months of graduation.
  • Credentialed by the NBRC at the Certified Respiratory Therapist or Registered Respiratory Therapist level required.
  • Current Respiratory Care Practitioner licensure in the state of Iowa required.
  • CAPRS and N95 fit testing validation within 30 days of hire required.
  • Demonstrated competence in Respiratory Care.
  • Must be able to read, write and/or speak English.

Responsibilities

  • Administer routine respiratory care to pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Perform incentive spirometry, aerosol therapy, oxygen therapy, and pulmonary drainage procedures.
  • Manage BIPAP/CPAP and ventilators.
  • Assist with therapeutic bronchoscopy, co-oximetry, ekg, holter, and zio.
  • Assist with intubation and extubation.
  • Perform blood gas sampling and analysis.
  • Conduct outpatient testing and suctioning following physician orders.
  • Assess patients receiving Respiratory Care using bedside assessment techniques.
  • Respond to and be a team member of resuscitation and rapid response pages.
  • Perform basic spirometry procedures and electrocardiograms.
  • Provide patient education related to Respiratory Care.
  • Assist with community events dealing with Respiratory Care.
