About The Position

The primary purpose of this job position is to perform respiratory/pulmonary therapy, management, rehabilitation, diagnostic evaluation, and direct care to patients with deficiencies and abnormalities affecting the pulmonary system. This role involves receiving and following schedules and instructions, adhering to established policies and procedures, performing focused patient interviews, and assessing signs and symptoms of physiological and psychosocial changes. The therapist will collect, analyze, and interpret patient data, plan for outcomes of care, and implement interventions according to the plan and hospital policies. They will also adhere to emergency, safety, and infection control procedures, promote good interpersonal communication, and report changes in patient respiratory status to the appropriate personnel. Developing and maintaining good working relationships with inter-departmental and other facility personnel is crucial. The role requires maintaining the confidentiality of all resident care information, including protected health information, and reporting any suspected or known violations. The therapist assumes administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability for assigned duties and must maintain the confidentiality of all resident care information.

Requirements

  • Must possess, as a minimum, an Associate Degree from an accredited school.
  • Must be a Graduate of a respiratory care program.
  • Current Respiratory Care Practitioner verification license for the state in which he/she practices (if applicable).
  • Current CPR/BLS and ACLS certifications.
  • Knowledge of office machines and equipment.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and employees.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
  • Prolonged use of a desk top or laptop computer.
  • Regularly required to sit, stand; walk and talk, read or hear.
  • Frequent use of all office related equipment to include; copier/scanner/fax, telephone, and calculator.
  • May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science degree in the health care field preferred.
  • Minimum of one (1) year respiratory experience in an acute and/or subacute unit preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and follow schedule/instructions from supervisor and as outlined in established policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to established policies and procedures of the facility.
  • Perform focused interview to identify specific patients’ needs.
  • Assess signs and symptoms indicating physiologic and psychosocial changes in the patient’s condition.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret data and information from health care members and document actual and/or potential diagnoses.
  • Plan for outcomes of care for assigned patients.
  • Perform interventions according to identified priorities, plan of care, and hospital policies and patient care outcome standards.
  • Adhere to emergency, safety, and infection control procedures of the facility.
  • Promote and participate in activities to facilitate good interpersonal communications.
  • Report changes in the patient’s respiratory status to the Director/Supervisor of Respiratory Care Services, the nurse primarily responsible for the patient, and the physician, as needed, and prior to leaving the facility.
  • Develop and maintain a good working rapport with inter-department personnel, as well as other departments within the facility.
  • Agree not to disclose resident’s protected health information and promptly report suspected or known violations of such disclosure to the Administrator.
  • Assume the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability of performing the assigned duties of this position.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all resident care information including protected health information. Report known or suspected incidents of unauthorized disclosure of such information.
