Requirements

  • Associate Degree in Science required
  • Current unencumbered clinical license according to the state of practice guidelines.
  • Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with the National Board for Respiratory Care.
  • Current American Heart Association BLS certification or obtained within 90 days of hire date.

Responsibilities

  • Examine patients with breathing-related difficulties and conduct diagnostic tests.
  • Consult with physicians to develop and implement patient treatment plans.
  • Administer physiotherapy and other treatments, and educate patients on medication usage.
  • Measure lung capacity and analyze blood samples using a blood gas analyzer.
  • Deliver and assess patient response to ordered therapy per care plan.
  • Monitor, record, and communicate patient condition as appropriate.
  • Evaluate respiratory care policies and procedures based on patient outcomes, current research, and best practices.
  • Respond to codes and calls for emergent assistance.
  • Assess patient condition and deliver appropriate treatment.
  • Educate the patient and family about the patient's illness and provide information about community support groups and other resources.
  • Monitor, receive, stock, and distribute respiratory care supplies and medical gas cylinders.
  • Maintain storage areas with required supply levels and equipment.
  • Disassemble, clean, and sterilize equipment, and perform preventative maintenance and calibration of machines.
