About The Position

MercyOne is seeking to hire a Respiratory Therapist. As a Respiratory Therapist at MercyOne, you will be responsible for providing basic and advanced respiratory care services to neonatal, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients. You will plan, implement, and evaluate the effectiveness of respiratory care, serve as a resource to physicians, colleagues, and customers, and participate in orientation, in-service education, departmental quality assurance activities, and staff leadership roles. You will consult with and assist physicians and nurses with respiratory care plans, assess patients, and evaluate the appropriateness and quality of respiratory care. Additionally, you will provide education to patients, students, co-workers, and other healthcare team members on various respiratory topics and perform diagnostic procedures including oximetry measurement, capnography, arterial puncture, mechanical ventilation waveform analysis, and pulmonary function testing. You will also perform emergency and acute respiratory care procedures in accordance with clinical practice guidelines and hospital policies.

Requirements

  • Must be registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care upon hire.
  • Must be licensed as an RCP in the State of Iowa within one year of hire.
  • Must be BLS certified within 3 months of hire.
  • Must be ACLS certified within one year of hire.
  • Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission and vision, goals, and values of Trinity Health.
  • Must be a graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in another health care setting is desirable.
  • Critical care experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Providing basic and advanced respiratory care services to neonatal, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients.

  • Consulting with and assisting physicians and nurses with respiratory care plans for patients.
  • Assessing patients and evaluating the appropriateness and quality of respiratory care.
  • Communicating patient needs with the patient's physician.
  • Providing effective education to patients, students, co-workers, and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Performing fundamental and advanced diagnostic procedures including oximetry measurement, capnography, arterial puncture, mechanical ventilation waveform analysis, and pulmonary function testing.
  • Performing emergency and acute respiratory care procedures in accordance with evidence-based clinical practice guidelines, and departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
