About The Position

The Outpatient Respiratory Therapist for WMG is responsible for performing patient assessments and testing, medication administration and implementing respiratory care based on expanded knowledge and experience. The Outpatient RT for WMG is responsible for delivering patient care in complex, multiple problem-patient care situations while maintaining confidentiality with patient information. A significant independent decision-making and self-direction is needed. In addition, the Outpatient RT for WMG is responsible for patient, family/support system education, coordination of activities, staff development, and professional and self-developmental activities. The Outpatient RT for WMG will have some responsibility of processing DME orders, returning calls from the in-basket in EPIC, and processing CMNs. The Outpatient RT for WMG is responsible for providing patient care with an understanding and awareness of population specific needs. The Outpatient RT for WMG addresses the biological, emotional, and developmental, psychosocial, and patient/family education needs when providing care to the patient. Also participates in the education of new employees and others.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree Graduate of an accredited respiratory therapy education program (CoARC or CHAAHP)
  • Respiratory Care Prof Certified Respiratory Therapi or Registered Respiratory Therapist -Preferred
  • Basic Life Support or BLS - Instructor Required
  • Minimum 2 years Clinical experience.
  • Ability to communicate well, use critical thinking skills, establish and maintain working relationships with physicians and other health care professionals, and computer skills including familiarity with databases.
  • Good customer relation, assessment, and communication skills are a must for this job.

Responsibilities

  • Perform timely completion of Pulmonary Function Tests and Pulmonary Stress Tests according to established procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality when dealing with patient information.
  • Perform daily calibration and maintenance of equipment.
  • Perform medication administration with accurate documentation in EPIC.
  • Perform pressure changes and mask fittings.
  • Effectively communicate information when instructing patients and others on the use of CPAP, BiPAP, Inspire or other assistive equipment.
  • Manage CMN's from DME.
  • Manage email and in-basket messages.
  • Manage and return patient calls in a timely manner.
  • Process physician orders by sending to DME providers.
  • Assist provider/staff with any necessary DME related request.
  • May serve as a resource for other clinical staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all WellStar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
