About The Position

Baylor Scott & White Institute for Rehabilitation, a joint venture with Select Medical, is seeking a full-time Respiratory Therapist for their Inpatient Rehabilitation Hospital located in Lakeway, TX. This facility is dedicated to providing exceptional and compassionate care for individuals recovering from brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, neurological disorders, orthopedic issues, amputations, and multiple traumas. Requirements

  • BLS certification required.
  • Current state licensure required.
  • ACLS required within 6 months of hire. (Agency RT must have ACLS upon first shift, PRN staff must have ACLS upon hire).

Nice To Haves

  • Must possess “Active” credential from the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) or state equivalent; RRT preferred.
  • One (1) year of related experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates patients and recommends treatment plans.
  • Explains the purpose and procedure of treatments, tests, and equipment to patients, and provides necessary education upon discharge.
  • Conducts physician-prescribed treatments using various ventilatory equipment (invasive and non-invasive), oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizer devices.
  • Performs chest physiotherapy, suctioning, oximetry, and capnography monitoring.
  • Reviews chest x-rays to determine the need for further evaluation.
  • Performs 12-Lead EKGs and basic arrhythmia recognition.
  • Performs pulmonary function studies.
  • Assists with procedures related to respiratory care, such as bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomies, and chest tube placement.
  • Performs drainage of chest via PleurX catheter or similar device.
  • Performs tracheostomy care, including insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes.
  • Performs arterial punctures and determines ventilation efficiency, monitoring, recording, and reporting test results.
  • Performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation according to BLS and ACLS guidelines.
  • Performs insertion and removal of endotracheal tubes.
  • Records all pertinent information regarding treatments and patient response in the respiratory care records and patient chart.
  • Communicates with attending and pulmonary physicians regarding the efficiency of therapy administered.
