Under the direction of the Director of Respiratory Services, this role involves initiating respiratory protocols, making treatment recommendations, and implementing various therapies for residents. The therapist will monitor residents on mechanical ventilators, BiPAP/CPAP, and high flow tracheostomy heaters, utilizing the Masimo SafetyNet System to assess cardiopulmonary status. Responsibilities include assisting with bedside procedures like bronchoscopy and thoracentesis, evaluating readiness for weaning from ventilators and decannulation from tracheostomies, and performing arterial punctures with iSTAT blood gas analysis. The role also involves coordinating transport for specific residents, performing airway management techniques, providing tracheostomy care, and documenting all clinical care in the electronic medical record. Effective communication with physicians, nurses, and therapists is essential, as is participation in resident rounds and leading the Rapid Response Team. Education of residents and families on disease processes and treatments is also a key component.
