About The Position

AdaptHealth is seeking a Respiratory Therapist – Ventilator Support. This role is a Field Clinician responsible for delivering specialized respiratory care to ventilator-dependent patients in home and alternate care settings. The position involves hands-on patient care, education, and collaboration with physicians and care teams to ensure safe, coordinated, and high-quality outcomes outside the hospital. Requirements

  • Associates degree from an AMA-approved respiratory program
  • One (1) year of clinical experience as a Nurse with ventilator exposure, Healthcare Respiratory Therapist or HME Respiratory Therapist
  • Valid and unrestricted Respiratory Therapist license in all states serviced by the branch
  • CPR certification
  • Valid and unrestricted driver’s license
  • Demonstrated experience providing respiratory care to ventilator patients, including ventilator management, airway clearance, and oxygen therapy
  • Strong clinical assessment, decision making, and problem solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot equipment and adapt care as needed
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with patients, caregivers, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams
  • Ability to prioritize work, manage multiple responsibilities, and remain flexible in a fast-paced, changing healthcare environment
  • Technical aptitude with Microsoft Office and clinical systems, with the ability to quickly learn new technologies and understand regulatory requirements at the local, state, and federal levels

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and apply advanced knowledge of respiratory equipment, ventilators, HME products, and related payer and regulatory guidelines.
  • Perform clinical assessments and reassessments, including review of ventilator patient records, compliance data, and care plans; communicate findings and recommendations to physicians and referral sources.
  • Participate in discharge planning and execution for highly technical and ventilator-dependent patients, ensuring smooth transitions to the home setting.
  • Demonstrate and instruct patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals on ventilator units, supplies, and proper equipment use.
  • Provide clinical follow-up with physicians and referral sources regarding patient status and tolerance of therapy.
  • Conduct clinical in-services for hospital staff, referral sources, and other professionals on equipment and clinically related topics.
  • Adhere to all patient confidentiality, HIPAA, PPE, infection control, and hazardous materials handling requirements.
  • Accurately and timely document all patient care activities, assessments, procedures, communications, and outcomes in accordance with company standards.
  • Maintain complete and up-to-date patient records, including prescriptions, plans of care, treatment plans, delivery tickets, and required checklists.
  • Ensure documentation supports quality tracking, data trending, reimbursement, authorizations (including ventilator referrals), and regulatory compliance.
  • Utilize continuing education, in-services, and professional inquiry to maintain and expand role-related competencies.
  • Promote AdaptHealth through program development, operational support, educational coordination, and engagement with referral sources.
  • Act as a clinical resource, collaborating proactively with peers and interdisciplinary teams to resolve issues and optimize patient outcomes.
  • Ensure accurate, clear, and timely verbal and written communication related to patient care and operational needs.
  • Participate in on-call rotation during non-business hours in accordance with company policy.
  • Complete all required compliance training and adhere to AdaptHealth’s Compliance Program.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
