About The Position

MercyOne North Iowa is the largest provider of health care services in its region and the largest employer in Cerro Gordo County. It is a private, not-for-profit health care center, licensed for 346 beds, serving over 400,000 inpatients and outpatients annually. MercyOne North Iowa is also a teaching institution, conducting various residency and fellowship programs and serving as a clinical training site for numerous students in medical fields. This role involves administering routine respiratory care to patients of all ages across various clinical areas.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; or associate degree in chemical, physical or biological science required.
  • Graduate of respiratory therapy program required or board-eligible within a few months of graduation.
  • Credentialed by the NBRC at the Certified Respiratory Therapist or Registered Respiratory Therapist level required.
  • Current Respiratory Care Practitioner licensure in the state of Iowa required.
  • CAPRS and N95 fit testing validation within 30 days of hire required.
  • Demonstrated competence in Respiratory Care.
  • Must be able to read, write and/or speak English.

Responsibilities

  • Administration of routine respiratory care to all pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Work in general acute care areas, intensive care, emergency department, surgical suites, recovery rooms, skilled nursing facilities, and other clinical areas.
  • Perform incentive spirometry, aerosol therapy, oxygen therapy, pulmonary drainage procedures, BIPAP/CPAP, ventilator management, therapeutic bronchoscopy, co-oximetry, ekg, holter, zio, intubation assist, extubation, blood gas, outpatient testing, and suctioning.
  • Assess patients receiving Respiratory Care using bedside assessment technique and knowledge of indications, contraindications, hazards of procedures, and actions/reactions of medications.
  • Respond to and be a team member of resuscitation and rapid response pages.
  • Perform basic spirometry procedures, electrocardiograms, arterial blood gas sampling and analysis.
  • Provide patient education and assist with community events dealing with Respiratory Care.
