About The Position

A respiratory therapist provides assessment, treatment, and monitoring of cardiopulmonary disease across the continuum of care. A respiratory therapist functions as part of an interdisciplinary team that coordinates and provides continuity of care in a financially responsible manner. A respiratory therapist is able to quickly and accurately assess a patient's condition and communicates effectively to the care team concerning changes in patient's condition, results of diagnostic studies, symptomatology, and response to treatment.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited school of Respiratory Therapy
  • National Board for Respiratory Care entry level certification (CRT) prior to their first day of Mayo employment
  • Valid permission (permanent or temporary permit) to practice with the licensing board in the state of hire prior to their first day of Mayo employment (for graduate respiratory therapists)
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist credential required upon hire or by the end of one-year of employment and must be maintained throughout employment
  • Basic Life Support certification required upon hire or within 90-days from date of hire
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or equivalent determined by site required upon hire or within 6-months from date of hire
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) where applicable
  • Basic computer literacy
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Function with initiative and independent judgment
  • Desire for continuous quality improvement

Nice To Haves

  • Previous hospital experience preferred
  • Additional NBRC specialty credentials preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Therapy or healthcare related field is preferred
