About The Position

MercyOne is seeking a Respiratory Therapist to join their team. This position is responsible for administering routine respiratory care to pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients across various clinical areas including general acute care, intensive care, emergency department, surgical suites, recovery rooms, and skilled nursing facilities. The role involves performing a wide range of procedures such as incentive spirometry, aerosol therapy, oxygen therapy, BIPAP/CPAP, ventilator management, therapeutic bronchoscopy, co-oximetry, EKGs, and blood gas analysis. The Respiratory Therapist will assess patients, respond to resuscitation and rapid response pages, perform basic spirometry and EKGs, and provide patient education. MercyOne is the largest provider of health care services in its region and the largest employer in Cerro Gordo County, operating a private, not-for-profit health care center serving over 400,000 inpatients and outpatients annually. It is also a teaching institution with various residency and fellowship programs, and a clinical training site for numerous medical students.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent; or associate degree in chemical, physical or biological science required.
Graduate of respiratory therapy program required or board-eligible within a few months of graduation as certification is required at hire/transfer.
Credentialed by the NBRC at the Certified Respiratory Therapist or Registered Respiratory Therapist level required.
Current Respiratory Care Practitioner licensure in the state of Iowa required.
CAPRS and N95 fit testing validation within 30 days of hire required.
Must have demonstrated competence in Respiratory Care.
Must be able to read, write and/or speak English.

Responsibilities

Administer routine respiratory care to all pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
Work in general acute care areas, intensive care, emergency department, surgical suites, recovery rooms, skilled nursing facilities, and other clinical areas.
Perform incentive spirometry, aerosol therapy, oxygen therapy, pulmonary drainage procedures, BIPAP/CPAP, ventilator management, therapeutic bronchoscopy, co-oximetry, ekg, holter, zio, intubation assist, extubation, blood gas, outpatient testing, and suctioning following interpretation of physician order.
Assess patients receiving Respiratory Care using bedside assessment technique and knowledge of indications, contraindications, hazards of procedures and actions/reactions of medications.
Respond to and be a team member of resuscitation and rapid response pages.
Perform basic spirometry procedures, electrocardiograms, arterial blood gas sampling and analysis.
Provide patient education and assist with community events dealing with Respiratory Care.
