About The Position

This position is for a full-time Respiratory Therapist (CRT/RRT) responsible for providing respiratory care services under a limited license. The role involves administering medically prescribed medications, therapeutic modalities, and oxygen, as well as performing diagnostic tests and maintaining equipment. The therapist will be part of the 'code team' and responsible for accurate documentation and patient progress reporting.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED Required
  • Associate's Degree in Respiratory Care Required
  • Working knowledge of problem solving and decision making skills.
  • Working knowledge of digital literacy skills.
  • Kentucky Board of Respiratory Care, National Board of Respiratory Care Required
  • BLS Required
  • ACLS (cardiac and rehab staff) Required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Outpatient services: Pulmonary Function test (PFT), Ankle Brachial Index (ABI), Stress test, Home sleep study, IN-Lab sleep study, Electroencephalogram (EEG), Holter monitor, Electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG), Six minute walk test
  • Experience in Cardiac/Pulmonary Rehab: Phase I-Initial assessment, Phase II-individualized plan including monitored exercises, Phase III-self-controlled long term maintenance

Responsibilities

  • Safe and effective administration of medically prescribed medication, knowing their indications and contraindications.
  • Administering therapeutic modalities including IPPB, IS, USN, HHN, MDI, following policy and procedures.
  • Setting up and monitoring oxygen administration.
  • Setting up oxygen cylinders and ensuring proper usage and safety measures.
  • Performing bedside PFT tests and potentially PFT lab tests after training.
  • Being a member of the 'code team' and performing CPR (compression) as needed.
  • Daily/weekly preventive maintenance and calibration, quality controls of ABG and co-oximeter analyzers.
  • Familiarity with oxygen delivery systems (e.g., nasal, venturi mask) and measuring devices (e.g., pulse oximeter, Wright's respirometer, oxygen blenders).
  • Set-up, safety check, monitoring, and troubleshooting of mechanical ventilators in collaboration with a respiratory therapist.
  • Familiarity with CPAP and BIPAP set-up and administration.
  • Maintaining accurate and legible records, documenting clinical notes in patient’s charts.
  • Participating in reporting patient progress and prioritizing patient condition to the next shift.
  • Proper documentation in department records.
  • Participating in staff meetings, attending lectures, conferences, and seminars.
  • Attending all required safety training programs and understanding responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job-related hazards.
  • Following the hospital exposure control plans/bloodborne and airborne pathogens.
  • Demonstrating respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees.
  • Promoting effective working relations and working effectively as part of a department/unit team.
